I come from a family of lawyers. My father, uncle, brother, and sister are all lawyers and my great uncle was Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court. After serving a three year active duty tour as an Artillery Officer in the United States Army with the Rapid Deployment Force and graduating from Wake Forest University School of Law in 1990, I joined the Office of the District Attorney for the 22ND Judicial District. I served the citizens of the 22ND Judicial District as an Assistant District Attorney until 1998, spending the last four years as Chief Assistant District Attorney. During my tenure as an Assistant District Attorney I was afforded the opportunity to gain extensive trial experience, both jury and non-jury, in the District and Superior Courts of North Carolina.
I joined Brinkley Walser as a trial lawyer in 1999. I had been in Davidson County long enough to observe the quality of law the lawyers practiced and the great reputation of the firm. Brinkley Walser is unique in that while we have small town values and traditions we deal with complex legal issues. We provide quality legal representation at reasonable rates to residents of Davidson County, as well as surrounding counties. The success of the firm revolves around team work, the ability to see the big picture and unwavering commitment to our clients' needs.
My partner, Charles McGirt, has mentored me in the areas of civil litigation, banking and business law. I also practice criminal law, including driving while impaired charges, traffic offenses, misdemeanors and felonies. The lawyers at Brinkley Walser have a vast amount of experience in dealing with a wide variety of legal issues and their mentoring has allowed me to develop into a well-rounded lawyer who can effectively serve our clients.
I enjoy hunting, fishing, skeet shooting and camping. I particularly enjoy living in a small town. I especially appreciate the opportunity to have gotten to know so many of the people in this fine community over the years.
“Steve is simply 'unpretentious' when he deals with his clients. His prior experience as a district attorney along with his belief in quality representation at a fair cost makes him a true people's lawyer. Steve makes it known that he believes in listening to the staff whether it is about our clients or about our office. He takes pro-active steps to make sure we are heard.” ~ Brinkley Walser Staff
